It is a grand old house and everyone says it is haunted. But Mr Otis says to Lord Canterville. "There are no such thing as ghosts." Right in front of him he saw, in the moonlight, an old man. He looked terrible. His eyes were red. His hair was long and and fell over his shoulders. His clothes looked very old and dirty. From his wrists and ankles hung heavy and rusty chains on iron rings. "My dear sir," said Mr Otis, "kindly oil your chains. Here is a bottle of Rising Sun Lubricator I must get some sleep." The Canterville Ghost threw down the bottle. He quickly went up the staircase. At this moment the door opened and two little figures in white appeared.
